Wednesday, Aug 8th
It was a night of triumph for Britain at the Oscars, with Daniel Day-Lewis and Tilda Swinton both picking up gongs at the glittering ceremony in Los Angeles.
London-born Day-Lewis, 50, won Best Actor for his towering performance as a ruthless, malevolent oilman in There Will Be Blood.
Swinton, 47, was shocked to be named best supporting actress for her role as a ruthless corporate lawyer in the George Clooney movie Michael Clayton, and gave a bizarre, meandering speech as she accepted the award.
