Adam Turrell (Tom Berenger) arrives in a sleepy Oregon town, introducing himself as an English professor working on his first novel. When he befriends Kate and Mike O'Connor, a brother and sister grieving from the loss of their father, they accept him as a normal man in a new town where he knows no one. But they will soon be thrown headlong into a world of terror when they find that Adam has fed them full of lies to disguise the fact that he is a serial killer in search of his next victim.
