22 years ago, John Winchester awoke in the middle of the night to find his wife May pinned to the ceiling, bleeding from the stomach, and bursting into flames. He managed to get his sons, 4 year old Dean and six-month old Sam out of the house before it blew up, but Mary was dead by some strange, unexplained supernatural cause. Present day, John has raised his sons to fight supernatural forces. Demons, ghosts, even cryptological creatures. However, they can't find just what it was that killed Mary. Sam became disenchanted with this lifestyle, and went away to college, where he falls in love with a girl named Jess. Dean visits Sam and Jess one night to say that their father hasn't been home in a while from a "hunting trip." At first, Sam is reluctant to help, but when he awakes and finds Jess dying of the same M.O. as their mother, he sets out with Dean to find their father by following any supernatural leads they can find across the country, hoping they can find him somewhere.
