Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez are facing the prospect of being separated from each other as they go off in different directions when graduating from East High.
Joined by the rest of their Wildcat friends, including Sharpay Evans, Ryan Evans, Chad Danforth, and Taylor McKessie they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes and fears about the future. Gabriella gets in to Standford, which causes problems in the relationship between Troy and Gabriella. Troy is now split in going with Gabriella or staying with Chad, his best friend.
At the same time, Taylor wants Chad to ask her to prom, but he seams to busy with basketball. Zeke wants to ask Sharpay to prom, but shes more focused on the spring musical.
